High Throughput Screening Core

Overview of Services

Mission:
The High Throughput Screening (HTS) Core will facilitate the discovery of novel lead compounds and chemical probes for clinical drug development and biochemical studies through the design and implementation of sophisticated, high throughput screening assays using highly diversified synthetic and natural product libraries.

The HTS Core is served as the starting point for drug discovery efforts working in close collaboration with the structural biologists, computational chemists, and medicinal chemists that comprise our Drug Discovery and Structural Biology to bridge the gap between the basic discovery of promising new therapeutic targets and the development of new life-saving, life-improving drugs for patients with cancer and diabetes.

Compound Library:
The City of Hope HTS Core is designed as a resource for screening small-molecule compound libraries utilizing a wide array of cellular and biochemical assay systems. We currently have a diverse small molecule screening library of over 200,000 compounds available, including selected focused libraries of approved drugs, pharmacologically active molecules and kinase inhibitors among others. In particular, the in-house collection of novel and diversified compound libraries is designed for discovering novel drug-like molecules that can be further refined and optimized into new therapeutics and tools for biomedical research and discovery. Screening is performed using advanced robotic systems that enable the high throughput analysis of tens of thousands of compounds in a single run.

Summary and Advantages:

The HTS Core is a full-time, professionally managed facility, boasting highly trained and experienced staff, state-of-art equipment, and a substantial library of compounds. These attributes, combined with a centralized knowledge base, increase cost-effectiveness and productivity in the ongoing battle against cancer and diabetes.

Investigators also benefit from the cumulative experience and skills from the High Throughput Screening Core.
