Light Microscopy Core

Overview of Services

The objective of the Light Microscopy Digital Imaging Core is to provide services, facilities and expertise to City of Hope investigators needing high quality light microscope images.

Microscopy and imaging technologies are rapidly evolving fields that depend increasingly on expensive equipment and skills beyond the means of most individual laboratories. We seek to provide a range of research-grade light and confocal microscope platforms for simple observations and documentation suitable for publications, grant proposals, and education.

The Light Microscopy Digital Imaging Core also makes available the latest research platforms for automated microscopy experiments, advanced observation techniques and sophisticated digital image processing and analysis.

Note: This core is not supported by the National Cancer Institute-funded Cancer Center Support Grant.

Please!

Ask Core Personnel if you need to change objective lenses or filter cubes.

Inform Core Personnel if anything feels or looks out of the ordinary (fluorescence is too dim, exposure is too long, etc.) or if any mishaps (liquid gets on the dry objective lens, objective lens rammed into specimen or hit bottom of stage, etc.) occur to the microscope or its components in the course of microscopy.

We will try to accommodate users’ specific microscopy requests (I.e. Installing special programs on computer, purchasing special filters, etc) depending on number of requests for the same thing and availability of funds.

Do NOT load any new software or macro or downloads from the internet on to the computers in the Core without the Core Personnel permission.

Please clean up after yourself before you leave. Anything left at the Core will be discarded.
