Overview of Services

The Histocompatibility (HLA) Laboratory provides testing services to research facilities on a fee-for-service basis. The HLA Lab is comprised of expert staff and state-of-the-art equipment. The laboratory is fully accredited by the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and the state of California to perform clinical testing for hematopoietic stem cell and bone marrow (HSC/BM) transplantation, transfusion support and histocompatibility testing for non-transplant clinical purposes (disease association, drug hypersensitivity testing, etc.).

New immunogenetics services can be offered by the HLA at the request of investigators.

The current research projects in the HLA Lab include:

  • ABO Genotyping: Detection of ABO genotypes by molecular methods (qPCR)
  • KIR Genotyping: Detection of high resolution KIR typing by molecular methods (SBT/NGS)
  • HLA-E, F and G typing: Performing typing of the HLA-E, F and G genes by molecular methods
  • MICA typing: Detection of polymorphisms in MICA/MICB genes by molecular methods (SSO)
  • Complement: Detection of polymorphisms in complement genes by molecular methods (SSP)
  • HLA Expression: Performing expression analysis of classical and non-classical HLA by cellular methods
  • HLA Chimerism: Performing engraftment analysis of mismatched HLA markers by molecular methods (qPCR)
